Bruno Le Maire, ’s finance minister, has announced that his country is suing and and seeking fines of 2 million euros ($2.5 million) because of the “abusive” contracts it forces development firms to sign. He said that the charges imposed by the Play Store and the Store were illegal. “As powerful as they are, Google and should not be able to treat our startups and our developers the way they currently do,” Le Maire stated.

In response, a Google spokesperson said, “We believe our terms comply with French laws and are looking forward to making our case in court.” Apple has not commented.
