The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has declared that there will be zero tolerance to noise pollution at the 2018 Lagos International Trade Fair.
To this end, the chamber says that it is banning the use of musical instruments and gadgets by exhibitors.
Speaking during the media launch in Lagos on Thursday to unveil the 2018 LITF, the Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, warned that musical instruments found in any of the exhibition stands would be confiscated.
“It is true that some of our exhibitors believe that the noise helps them attract potential buyers to their stands. It is indeed fast becoming a culture, to say the least. This year, we will not allow the use of music gadgets in exhibition stands.”
Idahosa maintained that noise pollution was injurious to health, adding that a special team would be deployed to ensure compliance.
He said, “Our central public address system will be made available to disseminate information and light music to make the environment welcoming.
“Besides, we are working on alternative publicity strategies that can attract quality patronage rather than making noise and becoming a threat to other stakeholders at the fair. We will make the findings available to all exhibitors to support their marketing efforts.”
He said that there would equally be zero tolerance to hawking.
Among the features at the fair, according to Idahosa, are improved sectorisation of the exhibition areas, upgrade of facilities and improved security arrangement, secondary school essay competition, LCCI international investment conference and foreign participation from over 25 countries around the globe.
In his remarks, the President, LCCI, Mr. Babatunde Ruwase, disclosed that the fair scheduled to hold in November would usher in big changes designed to enhance value delivery to exhibitors.
He said, “We have noticed the concerns of stakeholders about the hitches of the past and we are working tirelessly to make sure that there are great improvements this year and going forward.
“This year’s event is also unique because it is the first time that we are choosing a special media forum to officially commence the marketing activities of the annual LITF. We are doing this because we believe in the strength and power of the press in projecting the image of the fair and creating a positive perception.”
