Reddit has a very popular Secret Santa gift exchange, which matches Redditors who would like trade holiday gifts. Participants can give some information to help their partner pick out or make a gift, and YouTuber Brian Lough’s partner was into games—particularly the franchise—and music. To cover the music side of things, he made a guitar effects pedal, but the video game gift is what really stands out.

His partner had lost his copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, so Lough started by buying a cartridge on eBay. But, the present is where the real magic happens. It’s a chest, which is designed to look like the in-game chests, of course. When it’s opened, the same music is played that you throughout the Zelda franchise when you open a chest.

The box was made of a 3D-printed frame, with popsicle sticks for the wood slats. When the lid is opened, a reed switch triggers LEDs, and the sound effect to be played from an ATtiny85. That sound is output through an a passive buzzer. And, as if that wasn’t enough, Lough’s wife also cross-stitched a Zelda portrait to go along with the package.
