This doesn’t come as a surprise as recent reports had suggested that Google might soon launch an audiobook section in a bid to compete with services like Audible.

Those who purchase audiobooks via the Google Play Store will be able to access them on Android, iOS, and the . They will also be available via Google Assistant which means that users will be able to play audiobooks using their Assistant-enabled smart speakers. Google allows audiobooks to be shared with the same Family Library rules that apply to the other content that it sells.

No subscription is required to buy audiobooks from Google Play. Users just need to head over to the Google Play Store and simply purchase the titles that they want. Prices start as low as $.50.

Users can listen to books at up to 2x speed and can also set a sleep timer if they want to fall asleep while listening to their book. Their place is synced across multiple devices so users can leave the book on one device and pick up right where they left off on another.
